MAKANI WHITESIDE IS HAVING A FANTASTIC ROOKIE YEAR! #BRAVES #HIGHSCHOOLHOOPS

Since the season started, freshmen Makani Whiteside has been pretty consistent in his style of play. Now that the official games have started, he’s been averaging double digits in his high school debut at Saint John Bosco. He had an amazing career high against Centennial high. He dropped 18 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, and a team victory of 61-53. On the Bosco win vs Crenshaw high, he dropped 14 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds. On the win versus University high, he dropped 16 points, 4 assists, and 1 rebound. On the win versus Chaminade high, he dropped 11 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals. The Saint John Bosco Braves are in a 5 game winning streak this season. They are ranked on the top 100 in the state of California (ranked at #5 to be exact). They are also ranked on the top 100 in the nation (ranked at #46 to be exact). The relationship between Whiteside and new head coach Matt Dunn seem to be jelling really well. Whiteside is 6foot 2inch, weighing 160 pounds, averaging 13 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals in his rookie year so far. He also averages a 4.0 GPA in the classrooms. Here is a pic of his grades

He plays the point, reps class of 2019, and rocks jersey number 11. The Bosco Braves and Whiteside’s next challenge is going to be versus Chatsworth high in the San Fernando Valley Invitational Basketball Tourney Dec 18th, 2015 at 7pm pacific time.

THE UTAH UTES GET THE "W" ON RIVALRY NIGHT VS THE BYU COUGARS #HOLYWAR

One of the biggest rivalries in college sports just got even bigger. The BYU cougars took on the Utah Utes Wednesday night on their home court. Fans expected an intense game with OT’S, clutch shots, and game winning plays; however, the Cougars did not bring their end of the bargain. With constant turnovers, poor defense, slow transitioning offense, and lack of physicality, the Utes were able to gain a 20 point plus lead in the first half.  The cougars had gotten into foul trouble early in the game, even with a 2-3 zone defense. With poor spacing on the defensive side of the court, the Utes were able to easily find open gaps and attack the rim with ease. The cougars could not move fast enough to cover the outside perimeter, which allowed open three point shots for the Utes as well. This forced the cougars to switch defensive zones. David Rose quickly called a time out and switched the cougars 2-3 Zone to a 1-3-1; covering the outside perimeter to stop the Utes from getting easy buckets from the three point line. This did not however, stop their foul trouble. Offensively, the Cougars physicality was far from sufficient. The Utes man to man defensive made the Cougars uncomfortable, which forced them to make turnovers or plays they did not want to make. Cougar’s best player, Kyle Collinsworth, also known as “Mr. Triple Double”, struggled getting an open shot from inside and outside the perimeter; nevertheless, drawing a foul was not an issue for him. Collinsworth was able to get himself to the free throw line, which caused a problem for Utah. He was the only player that the Utes did not have an answer for.
Going into the second half, the cougars had picked up their act and began to play solid basketball, but only for a short time. What stopped their momentum was Jakob Poeltl, center for the Utah Utes. Poeltl dominated the floor offensively and defensively. The Cougars could not find an answer the big man’s strength, length, and speed. Poeltl finished the game strong with 26 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 Blocks; an amazing performance which earned him the close shave player of the game with an 11/16 FG. A well-earned reward for the big man.
Sadly, this game did not end with class. As minutes began fading away, Nick Emery, starting point guard for the Cougars, intentionally sucker punched #11 Brandon Taylor; point guard for the Utes. Nick was given a flagrant foul 2 and an ejection from the game. His questionable character has led him to a suspension which could ruin BYU’s chances of winning their next game, given the fact that he is BYU’s only good ball handler. After Emery’s ejection, and Kyle Collinsworth and Corbin Kaufusi being fouled out from the game, the Utes were able to play with confidence, knowing the night would end triumphantly. The Cougars however, did not give up. Coach Rose directed his team to run a 2-2-1 full court press. This allowed the Cougars to finish the game with only an 8 point deficit. A disappointing loss for the Cougars, and a glorious night for the Utes. The Utah pulled out with an 83-75 victory, and the Holy War was finally over.

Epic Duel on Thanksgiving Weekend! Ryan Campbell 19pts vs JJ Watson 20pts Plus Win

Those who arrived at El Monte High School after Thanksgiving Day were able to witness two well round scorers in the battle between Crenshaw and St. John Bosco. JJ Watson, a 6’3 guard for the Bosco Braves has a promising future in basketball if he continues to put up numbers such as 20 points and above. Watson has an overall game that allows him to be a threat offensively. With an efficient jump shot, speed, and handles, Watson has the ability to score from outside and inside the perimeter. With this kind of game, he has the potential to be an unstoppable player. Despite of Bosco’s victory, the Braves were challenged by Ryan Campbell’s rebounding and scoring ability. Campbell’s 6’7 height allowed him to get second chance points for his team. This was difficult for the Braves due to their lack of height. This open window allowed Campbell to crash the boards with 7 rebounds, but he did not stop there. With a powerful game inside the perimeter, Campbell was able challenge Watson’s 20 points with 19 points as well.  Campbell nearly scored a double double that could’ve have made the difference between victory and defeat for the Crenshaw Cougars. With time winding down with a ten point deficit, the cougars were forced to foul the Braves and send them to the free throw line; however, the cougars could stop them defensively. The Braves pulled out with a victory. Footage of the Duel is below:

The Bosco Braves next match up after the El Monte Tournament will be against Chaminade on December 4th at 7 pm; Bosco’s House. The Crenshaw Cougars will face off Beverly Hills on December 1st at 7 pm; Beverly Hills House.

T.J. Leaf and Kobe Paras is gonna make WestWood a beast to deal with! #UCLA #BRUINS #BASKETBALL

Two elite hoopers, Kobe Paras, and T.J. Leaf are heading to Westwood! UCLA Bruins fans must be ecstatic about the upcoming season in 2016. They have officially signed the papers, and are committed for a four year full ride athletic scholarship. Although they are Seniors in high school, they have done quite well for their high school career so far. T.J. Leaf has averaged from freshmen year to his junior year 25 points, 13 rebounds, 5assists, 3 blocks, and 1 steal. Kobe Paras has only played one year in the states, but he has done impeccable things in the Philippines that have not gone unnoticed. With one year in the United States (U.S), Paras has had a fantastic junior year. He averaged 15 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block. Paras had a career high his junior year in the states against Cantwell Sacred Heart. He dropped 34 points. Leaf's career high his junior year was versus Kearny high. He dropped 43 points. These two are obviously no joke when it comes to the wood floor. Their going to be very exciting to watch their senior year. Although Paras has opted out of playing his senior year for his high school due to schedule conflict, he will still be playing for the MiddleBrooks Academy basketball team, which the majority of the time, still has games at the Phantoms home court under the same head coach.

Will Mater Dei find its way back to the promised land? #STATE #CIF

After winning four consecutive State titles with NBA's Detroit Pistons top draft pick Stanly Johnson, Mater Dei has yet to find a go to guy after Johnson's departure.
After working hard to make a State championship game appearance once again in 2015 versus the same team they defeated in 2014, (Bishop O'dowd) The Dragons were anxious for some payback, and smelled blood as Mater Dei lacked a finisher with Johnson out of the picture. Mater Dei has proven that they can get to the CIF State championship with a whole different roster before, having to make a championship appearance for state without Johnson is an accomplishment on its own, and who can blame the Monarch's for losing against an eager team like the dragons who had top recruit for Boise State Paris Austin, and Cal State commit Ivan Rabb (who also played at the Michael Jordan Brand Classic this year as well).
Whats amazing, is that Mater Dei has always found a way to be successful before, thanks to the amazing coaching from Gary McKnight, but father time waits for no one, and McKnight isn't getting any younger. Will the Monarch program be able to not only make another State championship appearance, but win it as well with Rex Pflueger also out of the picture? Will father time affect coach McKnight's ability to be as consistent in delivering the Monarchs the best high school basketball program in the State of California?
The Monarchs open up their new season December 4th, at 7:30 versus Marian Catholic at the Chicago Elite Classic. Following that, they will be playing against Morgan Park. For more news on Elite Hoops:

Oregon Ducks Commit Tyler Dorsey will have a stand out 2015-16 season!

We have seen him help lead Ribet's Junior high team to a league championship, dunk the ball in the 8th grade on more than one occasion, help lead the Fighting Frogs to the CIF championship and state playoffs his freshmen year high school, grow as a player his sophomore year at St. John Bosco, seen him posterize his first victim in the CIF playoffs vs MiddleBrooks Los Angeles Cathedral Phantoms in his 10th grade year, we have seen him win a State championship his junior year, and win a CIF championship his senior year. There is no doubt in our minds that Tyler Dorsey is going to have a stand out season this upcoming year in College Hoops.
The game where he definitely grew into a real star was when he dropped 36 points and 16 rebounds his senior year with the MinuteMen from Maranatha high school. They were playing against LA Cathedral once again, and Dorsey had little help from his teammates that game. He kept the MinuteMen in the game the whole time, and only lost by 1 point. Cathedral was a highly ranked open division team at the time, and Dorsey was playing with a division 4 level team. Cathedral got the W, but the real winner was Dorsey. He got a chance to show the world that he was able to carry a division 4 team against an open division city and state playoff contender, he showcased his quickness, willingness to share the ball, consistency, athleticism, basketball IQ, and good sportsmanship. Footage is in the bottom:
He did great after the season was over when he went to play for Greece in the FIBA U19. He helped lead Greece to the final four of the FIBA U19 World Championship. Here is the footage of his impeccable performance in the final four.
He averaged 15.9 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 1.9 assists. If you want to see some exciting basketball this upcoming season for College Hoops, check out Dorsey as he prepares to play his freshmen year with the division 1 Oregon Ducks!
