Those who arrived at El Monte High School
after Thanksgiving Day were able to witness two well round scorers in the
battle between Crenshaw and St. John Bosco. JJ Watson, a 6’3 guard for the
Bosco Braves has a promising future in basketball if he continues to put up
numbers such as 20 points and above. Watson has an overall game that allows him
to be a threat offensively. With an efficient jump shot, speed, and handles,
Watson has the ability to score from outside and inside the perimeter. With this
kind of game, he has the potential to be an unstoppable player. Despite of
Bosco’s victory, the Braves were challenged by Ryan Campbell’s rebounding and
scoring ability. Campbell’s 6’7 height allowed him to get second chance points
for his team. This was difficult for the Braves due to their lack of height.
This open window allowed Campbell to crash the boards with 7 rebounds, but he
did not stop there. With a powerful game inside the perimeter, Campbell was
able challenge Watson’s 20 points with 19 points as well. Campbell nearly scored a double double that
could’ve have made the difference between victory and defeat for the Crenshaw
Cougars. With time winding down with a ten point deficit, the cougars were
forced to foul the Braves and send them to the free throw line; however, the
cougars could stop them defensively. The Braves pulled out with a victory. Footage of the Duel is below:
The
Bosco Braves next match up after the El Monte Tournament will be against
Chaminade on December 4th at 7 pm; Bosco’s House. The Crenshaw
Cougars will face off Beverly Hills on December 1st at 7 pm; Beverly
Hills House.
